Crudités All Day… Rosé + Lattes Too!
NYers and Angelenos are different. NYers eat like it’s their last meal, Angelenos to live forever.
west~bourne is a breath of Cali in Soho. The brainchild of Camilla Marcus, an LA native and longtime New Yorker, this new downtown restaurant serves veg-forward, California-style comfort foods in a homey, laid-back space filled with California-sourced crafts and artistry. My personal obsessions are the crudite and the egg sandwich (english muffin + pickled onions + labneh = egg sammy heaven!). Latte or rose as needed. I want to eat like this all day, every day.
Camilla is the ultimate foodie insider and a former biz dev exec for Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group who also happens to have a JD/MBA. She describes the menu as “a version of health with a creative twist. Everyday crave able foods that aren’t too unapproachable.”
Camilla, with her amazing red hair and cool LA-girl style, is also part of the West~bourne charm. She’s the owner and a badass business woman but she’s also the one who welcomes you in like you’re a guest in her home. She wants to make sure you’re well fed, having fun and your wine glass is full.
On a Friday night, a pair of women in exercise clothes happily catch up over wine and veg entrees. A regular leaves his spot at the bar at 9 pm and calls out to Camilla, “See you in the morning!” On a weekday afternoon, a group of co-workers comes in for a fun lunch out. A local pops in, looking harried: “How quickly can you do an order of brussel sprouts?”
“Seven minutes,” Camilla responds.
“I’ll be back seven!” the woman says as she scurries out.
